V6 car rearend question...

Buddy just purchased a 84 berlinetta. It was originally a v6/5 speed car. Im assuming the tranny is a v6 tranny but we are not sure it now has a 350/5 speed combo.

Would the rearend have 3.42 gears in it? I thought most v6 cars did but I am not sure.

The only way to be positive of the rear ratio is to check the actual gears. But you could also check the stamp on the rear end.

No it does not have the V6 tranny in it still. The V6 tranny will not bolt up to the 350. So... it has a different one in it now.

v6 t-5 will bolt up to a v8 with a v8 bellhousing. I know 2 guys that have done this.

Yes that is true, and thanks for pointing that out. But, and correct me if I am wrong, didn't the v6 t5 use some lesser internal components that would sacrifice the strength and integrity of th ev6 t5. For some reason i was under the inpression that the V8 T5 was a bit beefier.

Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The internal gearing makes them more prone to blowing up with an increase in power. And then there is the clutch issue
