Oil pressure question

I was checking out this '91 Corvette L98/6speed on Wednesday and the seller let me take it for a spin. The car itself has relatively high miles (140K), but I plan too in the somewhat-near future (after I save up enough money...since this potential purchase is going to set me back a bit) put in a motor in it. The guy's asking $6500. Its relatively clean, has chrome ZR1s and a catback. The interior has a few issues (seats, turn signal switch, ebrake handle). It seemed to run really strong and the motor sounded pretty tight. Maybe too tight. Because the oil pressure guage was pegged at about 80 psi, and only dropped down to around 40 when it was warmed up and idling. It went right back up when you revved it. Does this sound really high? Are corvette guages THAT innaccurate? Or did this guy put some gear lube in the crankcase to hide a few problems? I could check because he says the hood release cables are stretched and only his "brother", who wasn't present, knew the trick to opening the hood......

i would defently suggest gettin that hood open.. 6500 doesnt sound too bad though.. no clue on the accuracy of vette gauges.. could always be a bad sending unit though..

I have an L98, 91 GTA and the gauge also does just that, it's a bad sending unit, basically a bad reading, but supposedly otherwise everything is normal.
I paid a little over 6k after taxes for my car, 2 years ago from a dealer. It's only a gta not a vette but it had 85k miles, great inside and out, and everything worked.
