PCV valve air tube

The hose going into the passenger side valve cover....Does it do so with a PCV valve, or simply an "elbow"? I have different heads and valve covers, and I have drilled the hole in the valve cover for this hose, so this is why i ask. Thanks!

well to answer your question...if ya got carb or tbi, the pass side elbow tube from the valve cover goes to the stock air cleaner assembly located on the pass side of the air-cleaner. it is used to clean or recycle the exhaust blow-by coming from the heads going to the throttle.

also it is a metal elbow tube that rests in the valve cover and has a small rubber section on the other side that slips on the breather lip on the side of the cleaner.

Omar,

A TPI uses this air supply to the engine directly - there is no PCV valve in the right rocker cover. The only PCV on the engine is on the left cover.

Thanks, guys. I was pretty sure it was just a connector. Just had to make sure.

My TPI has two valves on the valve covers. One on the driver's side which goes to the intake manifold, and the one on the passenger side which goes to the throttle body. What is the passenger side one, if not part of the PCV system?

Also, Formula90, his sig says 1989 IROC-Z 5.7L, that means its TPI. Carb and TBI are 5.0L only (stock, that is)

Kevin, thanks for noting my sig!

The hose on the passenger valve cover is part of the PCV system, it's just that there is no actual PCV valve on that particular hose, just on the drivers side. Which I know from these guys answering and from just returning from the parts dealer. I have the newer black composite corvette valve covers on my TF heads, and I had to drill a hole for that provision. I just couldnt remember for the life of me if it was just an elbow, or an actual valve there connecting the hose.

Just so that you know, the purpose of that tube is to allow fresh air from the air cleaner to be pulled into the crankcase. The air is pulled in from the vacuum from the PCV valve, then the blowby is sucked into the intake to be burned. On a TPI setup, I believe the inlet goes to the hose in front of the throttle body, and on a TBI/Carb setup, it goes to the air cleaner housing, and hooks to that small filter.

Hope this clears up the operation of the system!

I have the same thing and all I did was get a PVC breather cap and then ran a bent molded hose from that to the pipe coming from the throttle body...looks pretty good, a hell of alot better than just a simple tube with an elbow in it..

Re: PCV valve air tube

Hi I was doing a TPI to carb swap and was wondering if the PCV valve on the passenger side was nessacery or if I could just plug it. Also there is a hose that runs on the driver side valve cover that use to go to the throttle body and was wondering if that was imoportant either or if I should just cap that too.

Re: PCV valve air tube

Wow, dead thread. Breather both covers or breather one cover or run to air cleaner base and pcv on the opposite side to manifold vacuum.
