harmonic balancer

I have determined that the timng ring on my harmonic balancer has moved (which explains all the trouble with timing I was having!). I will probably never turn the engine over 6500.

Should I go back with a stock" OEM" type or go to an after market type?

Do the aftermarket do any better job in balancing?

Do aftermarket do better job of timing ring not slipping?

ANY advice, experiances or comments will be appreciated

Some aftermarket balancers are made completely solid, so there's no possibility whatsoever of any sort of ring slip. The balancer on my 302 is solid...the timing is sort of painted/etched onto it. Thing is beautiful...works damn well too.

I had it installed quite a while ago by a mechanic (didn't have the time to kill tinkering with the new daily driver).....but I'll see if I can't get a hold of him and ask, or if there's a label on the balancer. I'll get back to you if I can.

Here ya go:

The company is called Cal Auto Transpeed... Their website is:
http://www.catpep.com

The Part Number for my balancer was HB-302 ("Harmonic Balancer-302 cid" of course). You might give them a call and see what their pricing is and if they have a balancer for your car. If they have a balancer for an externally balanced motor like a 302, I'm sure they'll have a neutrally balanced one for a 305 or 350.
