A few questions about valve spring installation
Do I need to check the installed spring height? If so, how?
Do I use the stock rotators on the exhaust valves?
Will the rope trick really work? What are my chances of accidentally dropping a valve?

1. The cam companies make a tool for that. It is a thing that you put in in place of the spring, and unscrew it until it fills up the space; it tels you what the space is, then you pick shims to reduce that to the installed height you want (usually the spring mfr's spec).
2. No. You need to get those off of there, they are useless at best and can fail and damage other parts.
3. Yes.
4. Basically zero, if the piston of the cyl you are working on is at TDC and the cyl is full of rope.

i check the installed height with a telescope gauge and a dial caliper. to me it's easier and faster and you can use the tools for other applications.
