Fire in the Bores!

Actually it was in the butterfly valves. Ok, I have my car stored, and I went out to just start it up and keep the gas fresh in there like I usually do. Its TBI injection by the way. Anyways, I took the open element off and was reving then engine with the throttle cable to get the engine hot. All of a sudden, BOOM, flames appeard and then died out immedietly down the butterfly valves and a quick puff of smoke. Car didn't stall out of nothin, it just kept on running like nothin happened. So what was that all about? Check my sig and see if it has to do with any of my mods. Thanks.

Lean condition, maybe a little condensation in the fuel.

If nothing was damaged (sounds like nothing was) then it's nothing to worry about.

pretty exciting when that happens. the best thing to do is open the plates and let it suck the fire back in the engine instead of catching something on fire out side the engine.

Oh yeah, it caught me off guard all right. I was reving the engine for my bro to see if we could make the work bench shake, which we did and I had my face down by the TB and then FLAMES ON! Hahaha. But it went right out, no fire on the outside of the bores, just down in the TBI Spacer. It was just a quick flash.

Pretty common for when the air-cleaner is opened like that. I haven't seen it as much on TBI, but pretty often with carbs. I'm always pretty careful about standing back when ravving the engine from under the hood, I like my beard and hair the way they are!
