How much power can my 350 take?

I have a short block 350 from an 89' vette. I want serious hp but I don't want to blow my engine up. I plan to go either small cam with a dual plane intake or large cam and single plane. So that puts me around 425hp and 6500rpms or 475hp and 7000rpms. How much can these engine take in stock form? Remember no nitrous or blower. Thanks. - Jesse

the weak link is the rod bolts. if it were mine and i wanted it to last i'd buy a good set of rods (lunati) or at the very least a set of arp rod bolts. you have enough miles on it to make a rebuilt worth while.

An 89 block is a good one because of the roller cam. You can go with a more radical cam this way. I would get things to beef up the engine like screw-in rocker arm studs, and stud girdles. Also, I would get a good set of rods androd bolts, like ede mentioned, along with forged pistons and crank. I wouldnt trust a stock harmonic balancer to 7000 rpm, either. And since you want such high rpm, I would go with the single plane intake and a big cam.
