ZZ9 cam with 305TPI user

i have the ZZ-9 cam sitting in the garage.
I have questions for those that are running this cam with the 305 TPI.
1. Did produce a vast difference in power.?
2. Other than springs, what else is involved in the swap.?
3. Did the stock chip support the cam?
I plan to use the stock heads and TPIS springs tha don't require machining of the heads. the car has an aftermarket chip (Per Resource) and headers soon.
thanks

I hate to ruin your party. But I have a 305 TPI and have a ZZ9 sitting at home in my living room I bought ( I sold it already though).

The ZZ9 will not work correctly in a 305 without changing the heads and maybe intake manifold. It's too much for a 305. It will fit and run alright, but trust me it's too much. I researched this for about a month. TPIS of course told me it would work one day, the next day they said it was too big.

Firebird87 put a ZZ3 in his 305 and it made him 6 tenths of a second slower in the 1/4. He then replaced it with a mild Comp Cam and it propelled him into 13s.

Another guy in Jersey had everybolt on mod you can imagine on his 87 305TPI. (slp headers, afpr, catback, gutted cats,TPIS big mouth intake,52mmtb,all free mods,airfoil,K&Ns... everything). He also had a Level 5 TPIS prom, ported and polished stock heads, forged pistons, ripper shifter, drag radials, and the ZZ9 cam.
His best 1/4mile was 14.4@98mph. Does that sound correct for all of his mods? No. Obviously the poor choice in his situtation was the cam.

Go look at lingenfelter cams (www.lingenfelter.com), and you will see the ones made for the 305 aren't as radical as the ZZ9. And John Lingenfelter knows what he's doing.

But to answer your questions, you'll need to change the valve springs, timing chain, and gaskets.

You will need a custom chip burned.
