L69 vs 350 police intercepor camshaft.

Last feb, my beloved lg4 spun a rod bearing on #6.I knew the compression of the lg4 for 86 model yr.I also knew this was my everyday driver.I wanted to do something for the poor beast(because the 186000 mile lg4 got stuck in the snow and its owner didnt know when to say when)So 6500 or 7000 rpm later i said heck with it and let it sit.Well i wont drag this out but i wanted to add the L69 cam to this stock rebuild but couldnt find 1.The after market upgrades seemed to spicey, so working for a national parts chain part time i discovered yhe police Intercepor
camshaft for the 86 350 caprice.For $39.00 this cam is a delight.
I have plentiful mid range torque.I keep telling the little 5.0 that it is not a carbed 350 or a tuned port 305.But it will not listen. This cam is actualey a little bit smaller than the L69! Sorrey this is so long but I felt this cam is worth talking about for the lg4 drvrs out there who wants a little bit more, but can get alot more bang for the buck.

that's not great bang for the buck. you can get a cam and lifters for around 80 or so some places. with your 39 for the cam and added lifter cost, it's not a great deal.

My '86 LG4 doesn't mind a "spicey" aftermarket cam.

But then, it's got intake, heads & exhaust to back it up.

$155 from Summit might sound pricey, but "bang/buck" is an interesting thing. I once knew a guy that bragged his CRX would outrun anything on the road that got better gas mileage. Well, a Geo Metro could make that claim, too. So, I'd say the best thing that $39 cam can say for itself is it makes for a small denominator.

Yeah, I guess if your standards aren't too high, even that 929 cam you have there could seem like a good "bang for the buck". As lame as it is, it's still better than a LG4 peanut cam, even if it's not even remotely dimly nearly close to anything that could be mistaken even in a dark alley at mdnight for a performance cam.
