bad oil pressure guage in a 91 firebird?
My oil pressure guage seems to be retarded. When I press the gas, it jumps up really high.. if not, it's around half.. what's probably wrong with it? Thanks.

At least yours moves! Mine just stays at 10 then 20 then 30 and back to 20 every 10 days. Junk gauges.

Which engine?? Is it a fluid movement or is it really jumpy??
If you are worried about it try replacing the sending unit for the gauge.
I've rarely seen a gauge fail. These aren't the most accurate gauges in the world...but thats a different complaint

That sounds fairly normal. The pump puts out more pressure the heavier the load on the engine is. So, when you floor it, the pressure guage should go up pretty significantly. Sometimes my guage goes over 60, but I've got a higher than usual pressured oil pump in there anyways. The 85 z28 I had and the 89 iroc's pressure gauges both did the same thing.

305 engine TBI. It's a nice smooth motion, but it's usually really quick. Usually while I'm driving, it's off the charts, which is why I think it might not be working right (or some other part connected with it).

Its not the gauge, its the oil pressure sender. Thats the canister thing just above the oil filter. Replace it and your gauge will work correctly again.
