A few MAF questions.....
A few MAF questions.....
ok here goes this is my first post. i have an 1988 iroc 305tpi a buesty of a black car but n e way...it has a horrible stalling problem. u start it up and 3 secs later its dead. give it gas it was work but die when let off. stalls at stop lights and even cruising down the highway. if i let go it stalls. now i had a list of a bout 20 things it COULD be but i read on one post to disconect my maf and see if it runs. well it did. it idled fine but i didnt drive it. i dont know what codes its throwing (no scanner) and no cel. but it will idle with out my maf conected. now to get to my questions.
is it safe to drive with out my MAF conected?
does this mean my MAF is ruined? my relays?
any help would be greatly appriciated. thnx for ur time

well...
like you said it could be anything, to check your code jump the a and b terminals on your cpu diagnostic under the dash (on the top row last two terminals. turn the key to the run position and it your ses light will blink once pauce then twice, this will happen three times , this is code 12 , a functioning cpu, if there is any codes stored it will flash out the other codes next. , as far as the maf, some people drive with the maf disconnected but i think it makes you run lean im not sure do a search youll find info on that ..... hope this helps

Normally it would run richer with the MAF disconnected, but seems you've found your troublespot.
Swap the MAF burn off and MAF power relays first, bewteen themselves, if no change, then MAF is probably bad. (assuming both relays are not).
If you don't have the ability or tools (requires DMM and schematic of the relays) to test the relays, just replace them...only about 10 bucks each.
If the MAF is bad, do a seach on the "Wells SU145" MAF, should be a direct replacement at about 1/2 the cost of a new Bosch.
