How much did you spend on you're engine?

Like the title says.

I'm going to build either a 355, 383, or 400 soon. Wan't to see how much you all have payed on you're build up.

Add how much hp and tq you are pushing too if you don't care.

I took my 2bolt main 400sb out of my '71 chevy p-up, rebuilt it and stuck it in my 85Z28. Had it bored .030 over etc. etc. It only cost me 1000 dollars cuz my good friend is a machinist/mechanic who builds racing engines. It is at 500hp right now with all the mods. My best guess is that I have spent probably $2500 total. However, if you dont know anyone who can build your engine cheaper, my mechanic told me he normally charges 2500 dollars to rebuild that type of an engine with it being bored out etc etc...

I just rebuilt a 350 from an 80' pickup. It was hot tanked, bored .30 over, had the heads redone and shaved along with a rebuild kit, pistons 10:1 flat tops. All that was done at the machine shop cost me `$1,000. That included the rebuild kit w/pistons. I bought the block from the local junk yard and it cost me $100. Then all the other things....new intake, hoses, plugs, wires....To make the swap it cost me ~$1,500.
I also sandblasted and painted the engine bay while the engine was out...That is not included in the $1,500.

re-manufactuered L-98 short block from champs auto was $900
that included a 150 or 200 dollar core chage since I had a 305.

rebuilt 416 305 heads with bigger valves, springs, screw in studs, ect... $350.

replaced L98 cam with xe269HR comp cam used on ebay $160.

Gaskets and misc crap added up quick, probably over 200 bucks. I re-used a lot of things like rocker arms, balancer, etc.. but still ended up spending close to $2000 I bet.

That combo got me a 14.80 at 97 mph with an open differential. Probably could have gotten a much lower e.t with posi.

since then I have spent and addtional $700 on vortec heads with bigger valves, springs, and appropriate manifold (performer rpm I got on ebay for 65 bucks) and have not had at the track. But the power increase is very noticeable. My mph should go up considerably.

So don't skimp on the heads.

$1500

Including buying the engine. I think the 400 is the best bang for the buck.

Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
With Cross-fire injection, there are only 2 injectors, not 8.

75# may even be a little small for a 400 depending on cam, heads, etc.

So far, around $700.

355, balanced and assembled: $400
Performer intake: $40
600 CFM Performer carb: $100
Rebuilt heads: $120; $50 for the heads, $70 for the work.

Probably won't use these heads, though. I'll have my other set redone.

I estimated some of the costs, as I traded sevices for the work. Being an electrician has advantages sometimes.

I bought my 350 from a totalled truck with 30k on it for around $600. It already had ported heads and a 3 angle valve job(or so the guy said I have no proof). That engine alone got me a 14.6 with headers and exhuast , and a 670 cfm throttle body. All together I spent about $1200 for everything for that setupincluding the equipment I used to swap the motors.now I have a few more things I want to add on . I am looking to build a new engine soon.

Complete 350 truck motor 100$ (Crank, Oil pan, timing cover etc)

670 street avenger 350$
ARP head studs 55$ (they aren't leaking...ever )
accel HEI distributor 191$

probably another 500$ worth of random crap, I used the junked 350 for any extra bolts I'd need. only thing I really spent $$ on was the induction/ignition

I spent about 2000$ for all the engine parts and machine work. Not counting another 1000$ to get the engine installed and running...

my next engine i def want to use all brand new parts....cause going used is just a PITA, sure I saved probably about a 1000$, but i also caused myself hours of pain and suffering....I tried 3 points distributors (including 1 new one) before I just got that really nice accel piece....car wouldnt' even run until that accel piece went in.
