VSS, hard to replace?

Just wanted to know. My spedo has not worked for like 4 months and now my service engine soon light is coming on. I get a code 24, which says it has a problem in the VSS. I priced one out for $57 at auto zone. What do I do, just pull the wires out of the old one, plug the new one in (on the back of my tranny) and I am ready to go?

Thanks

It's most then likely that the gear has slipped off the output shaft and it's not spinning to the VSS sensor. It happened to mine several times until the tranny shop did something to fix it.

If you remove your VSS and you can see the drive gear right there, more than likely, it hasn't slipped and your sensor is the culprit. If your speedo drive gear has slipped, you'll have to remove your tailshaft housing(pretty easy to do) and install a new clip in the speedo drive gear. Btw, a new clip is only like a couple of bucks from the dealer.
