thermostat change gone bad

this happened to me before, and i dont want to pay the enormous price i did before to get it fixed. the thermostat went bad and i figured i'd fix it. no big deal, easy task. but now the bolts to the housing broke off in the intake. why the **** do they do that? and how can i get em out without taking my car somewhere?

thanx for any help

get a bit for metal or aluminum. This happened to me once and with the right bit you can get this done in an hour.
