battery question
ok guys heres the deal.i got in my camaro after school and started it up it ran fine but the radio stations where all unset.time was off whole deal.charging gauge was fine so i popped the hood when i got home the negative terminal was loose so i tightened it turned the car off when i tried to restart it the interior lights went out and nothing happened no start.i noticed the inside of the terminal on the battery was a little chewed up.could i have a bad conection causeing my problem?
Do you have a multitester or voltmeter? Check and see if the voltage is up. Did you tighten the negative terminal while the car was running? That could blow a fuse. Are the battery terminals corroded at all? Is the clear eye on top showing through green? these cars all use maintanance-free battery's right? never mind all that, just change the battery, check the fuses, maybe cut the terminals off the battery cables and replace them with new ones... while your at it you can relocate the battery to the back of the car...

You could have a parasitic draw from your battery when the car is parked. A quick way to check this is to disconnect your ground terminal from your battery and hook an automotive test light between your battery and ground cable. Before disconnecting the battery, be sure everything is turned off, doors are closed (driver's window down) and if you have a hood light, take the bulb out.
If the test light doesn't light, it's more than likely the battery is bad. Before replacing it though, I recommend having a complete charging system test done at a local auto repair facility (A lot of places do this for free as a courtesy service).
If the test light lights up (even dimly), you have a draw. At this point, remove fuses from your fuse block until the light goes out. This will isolate which circuit the draw is on. An electrical schematic of your car will really help you at this point.
