Consenquences for turning engine without fluid in tranny
Consenquences for turning engine without fluid in tranny
What are they? Hopefully not too severe or else I will be weeping. I done this a couple of times for short lapses just to check how things are. Now that I figure out how to install the T.V. cable past the Superam I could add Tranny fluid.

87 GTA at the heart of the muscle lies a 350 with that big PITA Box induction, A used Paxton Blower that better work and a laptop to mess-around with the fuel and spark controls. The great ZZ-4 heads which are still virgins and a flat not roller bumpstick that Crane calls a single pattern for both 222*dur. &.450"lift at .050. Undestructible tranny I hope built by Dana and an expensive assed converter to fly off the hole. A F-word rear from Currie with mister spohns suspension. A ran up credit card bill and hopefully a fast as* car.

I'm no expert on automatics, but the only bad thing I could think of that may be possible is damaging the front pump. If it's a trans that you've had fluid in before, I probably wouldn't worry at all. If it's a brand new trans that's never been run, I guess there's a possibility of damage. Hopefully a good trans man sees your post, and can help you a little better. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, even if it is a brand new trans, if you put a couple of quarts in the torque convertor before you installed the trans, then you're probably okay.

I hate to tell you this, but you should never run a tranny without fluid. It'll burn up the clutches in no time. Even when you rebuild a tranny, the clutches should be soaked in ATF before assembly.

If it was in park you probably didn't hurt anything except maybe the torque converter. I'm guessing you just started it and let it idle in the driveway...if you started it and moved it into gear there could be pump damange. However, I wouldn't guess on clutch damage because you need fluid to engage the gears.
