EST bypass

What would happen if the EST bypass wire was left undone?
I posted this in electronics to no avail.I have a 88 MPFI 2.8 V6
The car was just rebuilt and to undo the bypass it runs Excellent,but to plug it up ,it bogs on take off bad and misses.

With the EST line disconnected, the timing should sty fixed at whatever you have it set at....

What's the timing at when disconnected?

8* When I plug it back in it goes crazy and the mark is nowhere to be seen.Will it harm it to not plug it in and run the car?
