Lots more ?s about A/C Removal

Does anyone have any pics of their car they can display or give me links to with the A/C removed? How hard is it to pull that black box on the fire wall out? How much dissconnection and other such is involved in pulling that thing out? It looks like its a real chore to dissconnect and get out. Is there going to be a huge hole in my fire wall after I take it out?

we did it to my sons car. wasn't that hard. unhooked the lines, removed the compressor and all the associated hardwear and brackets. took the blower box off the firewall and replaced it with a non-ac blower box. you can't tell it ever had ac and it's lighter and easier to work on.

I guess showing you a picture doesn't help much...you just basically just start unbolting and ripping stuff out...when you're all done you'll have 2 holes in your firewall...I screwed in 2 pieces of sheet metal and painted the entire engine bay and it looks really nice....just for some flavor I put those stickers on there so the plates weren't as noticable. Maybe this winter I'll bondo the entire wall and give it a smooth look.

damn, I did it again... When you unbolt the "big black box" from the firewall you will have the 2 holes, but like ede said there is a heater only box (much smaller, try a junkyard for one) and that will cover up both of those holes...It looks really nice. Let me dig up another picture for you.

It looks more dificult then it really is, once you start unbolting and taking things apart it's pretty straightforward...
I don't even remember the steps when I did mine so it shouldn't be much at all....

Also going to need a new hampster wheel for a non AC for your blower motor.

You could also go the way I did; I removed the a/c compressor and condensor and accumulator. I left the evaporator in it's hole in the heater/evap box on the firewall. I got the evaporator from my parts car; it's a/c system was already discharged from years of sitting.
