motor knocks on cold start ups!

my engine has a pretty bad knock for a few seconds when u start it up in the mornings. but it goes away pretty quickly. what could this be? also it doesnt like to start after its been hot and then sat for a littel while because the timing is advanced just a little too much. could this be the problem with the knock? thanks alot

sounds like you've got too much timing advance for that starter, and for the bad news: You may have a bad bearing in your crank or connecting rods. If it goes away after oil pressure goes up, then it's not as bad as it could be, but I'd be willing to bet you'll be in need of a rebuild in the near future.

the problem just started happening not long ago and its not that noticeable. so how long do you think it will be before i need a rebuild? it only happens when its really cold. my timing is 8 degrees advanced so i know its too advanced and im going to drop it down to 6 as soon as i get the time. the problem didnt happend until i advanced my timing so is there anyway that maybe it has to do with the timing too? thanks alot

What type and viscosity oil are you using?

What oil filter?

What is the normal running oil pressure?

What is the ambient temperature at startup?

i have recently been using synthetic pennsoil 10w30 but i just changed my oil and used valvoline max life 10w30 to see how well it works. oil pressure is usually like 45psi at start up and when it warms up it goes to about 30psi at idle and 45 on acceleration. the oil filter i use is pretty much whatever is cheapest. usually stp.
