ok guys i need help here. my friend and i are hoplessly in a debate about what valves were available stock in 305 heads. i say with the exception of TBI swirl port heads and 305 vortec heads, all 305 heads are about the same and ALL of them came with 1.84 intake valves. my friend says that the truck 305s were different motors and came with 1.94 intake valves, who is right? thanks guys!

 

AFAIK no 305 heads whatsoever came with 1.94" intake valves.

However, some did come with 1.72" intakes, notably some of the early 2-barrel ones, including the ones in late 70s and early 80s trucks and vans.

There is considerable variation in 305 heads, especially the early ones.

So, both of you are partially off base. Sounds like your friend is worse.

What's left to say? RB summed it up right there. No 305 heads came with 1.94" intake valves; even the Vortec 305 heads I have seen had 1.84" intake valves. The early 305's shared 267 heads so they had a 1.72" intake valve.
