92,

Port Fuel Injection is virtually the same as MPFI and TPI. Fuel is sprayed directly into the intake port, right behind the intake valve.

By the way, there is also a CPFI system - Central Port Fuel Injection. It is somewhat of a hybrid TBI system, but has he injectors scattered in the manifold after the throttle body.

SFI - Sequential Fuel Injection is much like any other port injection system, except that instead of batch-firing the injectors (in groups) each injector is opened in sequence. the improved timing makes for more accurate fuel metering and results in lower emissions, better efficiency, and more power.

Vader, in '96 it actually became a CSPFI becuase instead of earlier versions where there was one injector and six poppets with a batch fire, there were six injectors with each one having its own poppet nozzle, and was fired sequentialy. This was used on the '96 and later Blazer/Jimmy/S10/Sonoma w/ 4.3L and the C/K series trucks and Sport Utes with 4.3/5.0/5.7. All of these were called "Vortec" engines. But now that GM uses GenIII engines in the C/K trucks, the 4.3L in the S/T trucks is all that is left with the CSPFI.

As for the Caddy, the intake looks like it has TBI, but is has a dry intake with one injector in each intake track instead of the throttle body.

GMT,

Good to hear you're still hanging in there. Thanks for the clarification. All we need is one more acronym for EFI systems and we'll have to write a service manual supplement just to interpret the names and acronyms.

We could call it "GM Electronic Fuel Injection / Special High-Intensity Training". If we only had an acronym for the title....
