quick start question

I have been having starter problems, first my silinoid went out and now my whole starter. I just finished replacing them and it all works fine. My car doesnt have the front brace that should be on the starter. Do I need that or will that cause premature wear to the starter with out it?

What front brace are you referring to? When I swapped my started I just bolted the new sucker up and that was it. It fits in right like a puzzle piece.

If you mean the..what is it, dust cover or something....the thin metal plate that covers the bottom of the flexplate/flywheel on the front of the tranny, don't worry about it. My car doesn't have it and it's no big deal. There's just an off-chance that something's gonna get in there, but that'd be next to impossible.

Some starters have front braces besides the two main mounting bolts. I m just wondering if they are really needed or not?
