the marks are from riding in the lifter bore. so unless it's real deep no worry. just surface scratches from what i can tell.

Whether it's good or bad, don't reuse it on a new cam. It can cause premature cam lobe wear. Check the leakdown rates on it.

roller lifters can be reused with no problems, as long as they're good to start with on a new cam or old

You can reuse them but you could run the risk of putting grooves there that a different cam would not make their. Does that sound right? If you have the extra cash, it's best to always take the extra precaution.

Don't know if you knew or not but Comp Cams and Crane, and probably most manufacturers will sell you one lifter. The cost is minimal when compared to wondering if the thing will hold up. Don't call your local speed shop. Deal with the manufacturer directly for a single replacement.

thanks for the replies.

i just put them back in. it's just very minor scratches and i wont be using a new cam. i do plan on doing the timing set eventually, so hopefully i will have saved enough $$ by then to go all out and get new valvetrain stuff.

Good luck to you. I'm going to wait till spring to do most of that stuff on my car.
