Heater fan problem

well its finally cooling down, so this winter i figured i fix my heater for those chilly mornings. everything worked fine as far as the blower motor controls before i put a new motor in my car (350HO).

although i never had a heater core or a a/c compressor.

now after hooking everything up, the fan blows fine, at all three speeds, but the air only comes out of the defrost vent under the windsheild.

i currently don't have a heatercore installed, so i can't tell if it is blowing hot or cold air.

any ideas?

well if u have a bird i don't know where the heater box is located but under the passengers sider dash is a black box (read articles here on the board, you'll find step by step on how to remove the heater core.)

Anyway, theres a lil fin, you'll see once the cover of the box is removed, I think taht controls where the air is sent, theres a lil metal bar that might be bent or broken... you'll see what i'm talking about once u remvoe the cover =]

all the heater controls are is vacuum powered...

good luck

vaccum powered..... thats the problem right there... when i swaped out engines, i pretty much tore out all the vaccum lines.

where is the vaccum line located for the heater controls? and where does it go thru the firewall?

is it one of those hard plastic vaccum lines?

There should be a small (about 1/8") purple or black hard nylon vacuum line hanging out of a plastic wire conduit right around the right side of the distributor - depending on how much of the original wiring there is remaining.

Connect it to a source of full manifold vacuum, not an EGR or EVAP purge line.

ahhhhh Now I understand why mine does that also. I did the same thing. Did away with all the vacuum lines and such. I need to hook that up so I can have something besides defrost.

thanks scottland and vader...once again.
