carb aircleaner question.. cleaner size Vs spacers?

has anyone done any conclusive back to back testing on aircleaner size Vs spacers?

im mostly talking about highrise carb intakes...

i see some guys running a 1" spacer and then only having a Drop base air cleaner....

what usually makes more power? having no spacer and a bigger air cleaner, or having the spacer and a smaller or dropbase aircleaner?

anyone do any back to back testing? does it just vari alot depending on engine?

Yeah, car craft or hot rod did one like 6 months ago or so. The short answer is that they found that drop base air cleaners didn't really hurt flow and spacers helped. In a couple cases they found that the drop base air cleaner actually flowed better. Needless to say they were suprised because common belief is that drop base aircleaners hurt flow. So if you're debating weather to run a spacer with a drop base cleaner, or a low rise with a regular, go ahead and run the high rise you're not gonna hurt anything, and you'll probably gain a couple ponies.

the spacer will give a little more plenum volume. Unless the filter isn't allowing enough air flow it won't help anything so I would go with a spacer over the huge filter.

[ONly if you watch to much TV]

Don't forget Big Daddy Don Garletts tip of the week.

a 1 1/2 - 2 in spacer is a great way to increase power for free.

Course what a broad statement but just thought I would share. He was from the day of stick it on and run, no math involved.
