Freshening up My 350
I will be pulling the sbc 350 from my 83z so I can have the car painted, & I was wondering what could I do to it while it is out of the car to freshen it up abit without getting anything machined? Also I want to paint the engine and need some advice about prepping it for paint?
Thanks,
Skull

Just check for small leaks.... like the oil pan gasket, timing cover, valve covers, etc.
R&R as needed.
I suppose you could step up to a larger cam (within reason), better intake, maybe even just replace the timing chain set if you want.
About the only other thing would be valve seals if need be. They're MUCH easier to do with the engine out.

If you wanted to take it a step farther you could pretty much rebuild it, new gaskets, seals, bearings, and piston rings. That would allow you to take apart to check for excess wear everywhere.
I would definatly put in a new oil pump and timing chain. And like said before, this is the perfect time for a cam swap, if there is ever going to be one!!

Sure wish I had a garage...
If only I had the chance to do stuff like that - apartments are the pits. Someday, I'll have a house with a four-car garage, grease pit, full set of Snap-On tools, air compressor, half-ton crane...

i'm going to be pulling the 305 from my coupe soon. while it's out, i'm replacing the oilpan gasket with a 1 piece unit. i also want to check over the other parts, and possibly put new valve seals on the heads. it smokes prety bad on startup.
