Car Won't Start!!!Could it be the ECM/ECU?
Hi,
Im new here and encountered a problem with my 1991 Camaro RS that has a 305 tbi and an automatic.Just yesterday it was running PERFECT.Well, not perfect because i've always had a knock whenever the transmission would shift to a lower gear. Then it would hesitate/knock.But that is not my problem.
This morning,i go to start her up and it just cranks over.I checked for spark and I have none.I check for fuel and i have none.THe only thing that I know that controls fuel and spark is the ECU?Or could it be my ignition module?PLEASE HELP I HAVE SCHOOL TOMORROW.I used the search button but couldnt find anyone with the same problem as I.
Also what do they call it?the ECM or the ECU for the computer?I know the ford guys call it the ECU.

i've always seen it as ecm (electronic control module)
As for your starting problem, I would first check the coil...Fuses/fusible links...
Test to see if your coil is getting power. if it is, perhaps its a bad coil... You ignition module could very well be your problem as well, and i believe that it controls an injector pulse sent to the ecm and or a switch as well...you can take the ign module out n have it tested, i would recommend using a hair drer on it to heat it up before tests.
Can u hear the fuel pump prime when u turn the key on? your fuel pump could have took a crap on you as well, just a coincedence it happened with other failures
i'm basing some info on my truck b/c it is tbi and i read alot on this when i had a ignition problem, turned out to be a bad coil that i bought brand new n they tested n told me it was good.. it wasn't and now i'm having wiring problems cause i tore alot up tracking down n tracing wires.
