stock piston stroker......

I am wanting to stroke my motor, but like most everyone I dont want to spend a lot. The motor has 120k on it but is in very good shape, I can still see the cross hatches on the cylinder walls. So I was thinking of getting a one piece stroker crank(383) from summit. Its cast and only 200 bucks. I was considering using the stock rods and pistons. Of course I planned on balancing, and new bearings/rings. as well as preping the block. Will it hold up to 450+HP/TQ? Should I wait and put some more $$ in it or could it hold up for a while. I will run it hard, it will be topped with a set of AFR's, and a mini ram. Constructive critisim welcomed.

One of these things is not like the other. One of these things doesn't belong. etc. etc. etc. I'm sure you know the song.

Stock 350 rods and pistons cannot be used with a longer stroke; the pistons will come out the top of the bore. It is however possible to build a 383 with a stock 400 crank and stock 350 pistons, if you use stock 400 (not your stock 350) rods, and turn the main journals down to 350 size, as is already done with a pre-packaged "stroker" crank.

I don't know what this "hold up" is. If you're asking if stock rods can survive 450 HP out of a 383 CID motor, then yes, easily; since to get that much HP out of a larger motor you don't have to spin it as fast as you would have to in order to get that much HP out of a 350. That's not much at all. Use better rod bolts in your stock 400 rods, if you're going to use stock parts, and they'll be OK.

I'd strongly recommend a better short block than a cobbled-together bunch of the cheapest (or even least expensive) stuff you can find that will fit, if you want this combo to last. It's mighty dumb to cheap out on the short block when you max out the induction system. That's a recipe for littering the highway or track with shrapnel. Match your parts more wisely. What you are proposing is very risky, and will almost certainly lead to a short-lived catastrophic disappointment.

I'd pay a dollar to see the pistons come up through the bores into those $1500 heads which throw the valves through that $2000 miniram....

But hey, they are only cheap parts, right?

I like the song, lol.Point well taken. Although I failed to mention the miniram and AFR's I am pratically stealing. But like I said I was just kicking around some idea's. I was mainly feeling out the idea of the summit crank. I dont want to spend a boat load of cash on a scat crank. Is the cast summit crank any good? I hear people talk lots of poop about cast cranks. Thanks for the input.

I would save your money and get a FORGED bottom end. I know I play EXTREMELY safe but idk if I could sleep at night knowing I don't got the strongest type pistons. Idk why, I just can't.

You mean a negative piston to deck height of .225 isn't gonna work?
