Smog pump removal & effect on air/fuel mixture
Smog pump removal & effect on air/fuel mixture
If the smog/air pump is removed, along with the air tubes to the exhuast manifold, will the oxygen sensor notice the lack of injected air & send a signal to the computer to change the air/fuel mixture??
Nope, not really. Once I knew what the code was, if the light came on while driving the next time I started it it wasnt there. You could try NOT clearing the codes so frequently, or if you're trying to reset the computer to baseline pull the ecm fuse instead of the battery cable.

I have removed my smog pump and all hardware and get code 32 all the time. I was told the only way to get rid of the code is when you have a custom chip burnt, have them turn the test off in the ecm and set all percentages to 0%.

I have removed all that crap 8 months ago and have never had a code 32.
The car run fine and had one less wheel to turn. There might have been some improvement in performance but it is hard for me to say because I did few other mods as well in the same time.
Go ahead take it all out it is useless.

I say leave it if you have a cat and are a daily driver. Not to say that I like all the emissions tests but I have to say that I don't like seeing daily drivers with no cats. It was designed for a good reason and it does it's job well. For a race car I would still say keep the cat, just get rid of all that other crap like EGR and the smog pump. I'm not a Gore follower but there should be some regulations on daily driver cars.

Code 32 Has nothing to do with A.I.R. whatsoever, its a malfunction flag for your EGR (thats the little gold iridite diaphragm hat on your intake manifold with vacuum hoses going to it, its probably gone bad on your car or the solenoid to it has gone bad, very common)
the AIR system has no effect on air fuel ratios because it only works on startup for a few minutes to deliver air upstream of the O2, and your O2 sensor is not monitored during those initial minutes of your car running. After that all of the air is diverted to the catalytic converter
Our OBD1 computers do not monitor the function of the AIR system thus they cannot throw a malfunction flag if the AIR system is removed
code 32 (egr) and A.I.R. are totally unrelated
