Power to car cutting out, starter culprit... ideas?
Ok, my last starter seized up due to heat soak (I think). I got a used one from a friend and went to put it in. Well, in the 30 degree cold, on a soaking wet ground, with only a jack stand to hold the car up 1/2" from my face; I wasn't in a very happy mood, and I did something stupid.
The larger post where the battery wire connects to and another wire connects to snapped off inside the solenoid halfway thru tightening the nut. At this point I just said fck it and put all my stuff away; planning to keep push starting the car as I have been for a month now.
Here's the problem. Sometimes when I push it everything in the car shuts off till I wiggle the wire from the battery to the starter, then I can get it to click on again. But if I hit a bump or something, it kills it again. Not easy to drive this heap in traffic I tell ya.
Here's my question. Till I get yet another starter, can i bolt the battery wire and the other wire on that post together, separate from the starter? As long as I insulate it really really good?

I have no idea where I could buy just that...
Anyway, I have the new starter on the way, but I wasn't going to put it in till I got my exhaust leak fixed.
So... can I do that?

Like I said, I have a new mini starter to go in, but I'm not going to do that till the exhaust leak is fixed. So.... can I bolt the 2 wires together?

You should have three small wires and one large wire. Two of the small wires will have large lugs on them, these two wires and the large wire go on the large top post of the starter solenoid. The third small wire with the small lug go on the small post on the starter solenoid marked "S", there is a second small post there marked "R". Do not use this post unless you are using a remote starter swirtch.. The bottom large post on the starter solenoid is a terminal contact for the starter, no wires go to it.

Right, I know that. I have 2 large wires on my large post, and one small one on my small post. The large post on the solenoid is broken. The nut is tightened only half way. Now, I just want to know if I can take the 2 large wires on the large post off the post and bolt them together.
