intake swap gone bad

91 rs 305 tbi

ok so a buddy of mine swapped his intake and now the car runs like ***....ive been busting my knuckles all day playing with it and it wont run right.

heres what happens. when we start it......it revs SKY high..5500 rpm and stays there, also, a squeeling noise like you wouldnt believe.....its seriously about 160 dB scream...sounds like a girl screaming at the top f her lungs. ive checked ALL hoses and lines, all fine, swapped out the tbi from my car, still does it.

i have played with the timing ALL day, set it at #1 on #1 tdc, turned it 180, turned the damn dist 100 different ways.....nothing, it stays at the same constant 5500 IDLE ...the tbi idle screw is backed all the way out.....all the sensors are good, new ecm.....HELP

Sounds like the brake vacuum booster line is disconnected.

nah brake boost is fine....its nothing real obvious, im thinking the manifold itself is leaking through one of the runners .......this is so loud its scarey...and revs to 5500 rpm....its insame ,no way to get it to NOT rev to 5500 rpm

Here's some more ideas....

1. when you were playing with the distributor, did you disconnect the esc connector?
2. there HAS to be a major vacuum leak somewhere. I suspect the adaptre plate to the intake maifold has some gap or other opening in it that is not obvious.
3. also possible the throttle cable is not letting the plates return all the way?
4. go to a junkyard and get a tbi manifold and change it to see if it is in the manifold.
5. overlooked hole that a vacuum tree goes into? this would most likely be in the very rear of the intake.

good luck and let us know!

And the throttle blade is completely closed? Is that what you're saying?

checked all hoses, every vac port on the manifold and tbi, all good, linkage isnt even hooked up, blades are Closed. i swapped tbi units onit, still didnt help, plate worked well on my car.....so i dunno......i seriously wanna know why its going to 5500 rpm when we start it.....its hard to tell where the leak is when you got a car about to sling a rod the moment it starts, i refuse to let it run for more than 2 seconds until we figure out why its reving so high
