Gentlemen,
I read a rumour that the general is putting an LS6 in the bird in 02. Is the LS6 the corvette engine? What is the diff from the LS1?

I think someone posted on another board that Scott Settlemyer (asst brand manager) said that there are no plans on putting an LS6 in the 2002 Z28. Sure would be nice though.

GMHTP said they heard the same rumors about the LS6. But I would imagine that it would only be available in the Firehawk and SS, in limited quantities of course...... may even be more HP by 2002.

That would be correct... the LS6 was a square-port 454 IIRC...
However the factory recylcles RPO numbers when they feel like it. For instance, the 93 LT1 isn't a mechanical cam 350 with double-hump heads and a Holley 3310 carb. For all we know, RPO code LS6 in 2002 would more likely be a transverse 3-cylinder than a performance big block. There's no magic in one of those codes.

from what ive heard there are no plans for the ls6 vette motor to be used in the fbods.. the modern ls6 is pretty much a reworked ls1 as far as underrated, i recall reading in motor trend that the car they had had a slipping clutch

My dad wants to drop a lt-4 in his 93 vette, Then i told him about the Z06 and he went straight to the computer to find a crate motor LS6. Is it possible to find a crate LS6. He wants to drop that in and give me the LT1.

The LS6 2001 Corvette did 330rwhp at our car show in August 2000. Check out Indy2k at www.indycamaro.com. This is the Central Indiana Camaro Club site.

look closely at how gm writes the rpo the early 70s 350 was a lt-1 the 90s is a lt1 just like the 67-69 camaro was a z/28 and after that they all were z28. not much differance but enough to keep them seperated if you're up on all the rpos and such.

ede I believe you are mistaken there... the actual RPO codes themselves have never had a dash. However, there was also an appearance package for the Camaro in the mid-70s, called "LT-1"; in about 78 or so that package got turned into the Berlinetta. Also you may recall that even though Z28 has been the RPO code for the Trans Am racer since 67, for a couple of years (71-73 IIRC) the badge on the car said "Z/28".
In any case, there are obviously only a finite number of possible 3-char RPO codes; since "L" codes are engine options, which tend to be fairly numerous, there is always a good possibilty that they will be recycled.

yeah you know what i mean, just not very good at getting it said. i guess i meant to say badging and not rpos. the vetts had lt-1 on the hood and we all remember the z/28 badges right? ther was an appearance package i believe now that you mention it in the late 70s.
