305 buildup

hi, im building a 305 ci engine for stock car racing and was wondering what the best factory 305 head there is available? has to have press in studs is the requirement. also has to be flat tappet. thanks

I'm guessing your best bet would be a worked 416 casting.

416 or 081, depending on whether you want early-model or late-model intake bolt pattern & valve covers.

They're about the same other than the bolt-up issues.

Every one around here uses the 416's because they came on our cars. I persoanlly like the 601's, ports are cleaner and the compression is a tad better 55cc.

are all these cast iron? thats what i need for this car because of the rules. also, what cam would you suggest for this head? this is a race car only, no emissions or idle worrys. thanks
