increase mph on speedo

I have the original speedo, and in other posts, someone said their speedo was inaccurate. someone else said that it could've had the needle removed and installed off. I was thinking, if I remove it, and install it straight down,(instead of at 7:30) then changed the numbers, would that result in a higher mph speedo? If I don't make sense, tell me.

Technically you could, but you're much better off going to a junk yard and just salvaging an higher mph speedo out of a thirdgen there. The work involved in making a new face that looks good would just not be worth it.

Well, the reason I did this was because the higher speedos are for electric speedo drive. I need to have a mechanical for the speed sensor that the computer reads from. I have a WC T-5 that has the electric speedo drive, and if I can keep it, and bypass the speed sensor, then I will get a later model dash. I can't install the tranny yet, cause of back problems. As for the speedo that I modified, I don't think it looks that bad, I just changed the numbers. I painted them silver.
