bad noise, should i rebuild?

i have a 79 3/4 ton chevy truck engine in my car and it has recently started ticking really loud on cold start up adn then it has a light tick that you can hear when your under the hood or under the car. i dont think its an exhaust leak and its not the lifters because i adjusted them already so what can be going on? if the engine is going south how long do you think it will last? it has plenty of oil and good oil pressure so im pretty stumped. if i need to rebuild, where could i get a good but cheap performance rebuild kit to get a little more power from it? and would it be ok if i used a set of ported 305 heads? i need some help deciding what i should do. thanks alot

i was told that it could be a bad main? and i cant figure out what it is, it sounds the loudest on the side of the back of the oil pan so i figure its something internal. not exactly sure.
