SBC 400 .040 pistons for 3.48 stroke and 5.7 rods

I have been looking for 400 .40 over pistons for 3.48 stroke and 5.7 rods, Does any one know if any piston manufacturesr make this combination.

Your best bet would be to contact the various piston manufacturers directly.

You might have to get these as custom pistons: try Wiseco, SRP, or J & E Pistons.

Not too many people are interested in downgrading their 400 that way, so it's not a common combo. You'll almost certainly end up having to get custom pistons, or high-dollar ones like Wiseco, who I believe might offer them off-the-shelf.

Why are you deliberately reducing your engine's power output like that by eliminating 30 cubic inches? Most people most of the time are looking for ways to get more power, not less, which is of course what you're going to get by shrinking your engine size by 7.5%.... about 7.5% less power. You're spending extra money to buy the ammunition to shoot yourself in the foot with.

Ease of rebuilding, I have a perfect steel, Its not cast 350 crank, and a set of rods, That have been resized, I need pistons and rings, and balanced am I'm ready to rebuild it. And since I'm sure you read the other post, you know my crank from the 400 is toast.

If you have a 400 block why not buy another crank. A Scat 9000 crank can be had for less than $200.00. The money that you are going to spend on custom pistons will exceed the cost of a new crank, plust will will also have more power....

How can it be balanced if you don't have the pistons yet? I would sell the crank & get a 3.75" or 3.875" stroke crank.

Rick I missed what you said, When you asked about balanced, What I should have said I would need to get the 377 balanced. And the pistons I refered to, Were the original 400 pistons, for the 408. All I have to do is, get the original crank welded up and then turned down to factory spec and I can use everything I had before.

I can't back up what RB said about a Scat 400 crank for $200, but you might look into that. May cost less than repairing your old one. Then your old one can be used in somebody's 383 project...
