dont be a cheap ***, take off your driver side valve cover n turn the over over til the lifters on #1 (the one closet to the front of the car, drive side of engine) matches up...i turn my engine over with a big breaker bar clockwise on a nut in the middle of the harmonic balancer (if u go counterclockwise the bolts will crack loose)

installing the distrib - you may have to turn it a bit n let it slide in, if it points to #1, your in the green.. make sure its all the way down, the oilpump drive is set... easy as 1 - 2 - 3...

do a search here for more detailed instructions, everyone and their beagle ask this question...

You don't need to take the valve cover off. Take the #1 spark plug out, bump the engine over while holding your finger over the spark plug hole (either use a remote starter button or an assistant to do the bumping). When the timing mark is approaching the tab and there's pressure on the spark plug hole, you're on #1.

You have to turn the rotor counter-clockwise one tooth's worth when you start to drop the distributor in in order for it to be in the right place when it's all the way down.

only reason i said is theres room for lil error your way... you must do it until u feel no more compression.. i guess it dont really matter but i have that sort of sick mind that it does..

Nothing of the sort. I'm just lazy.

Really lazy, actually.

Ask anybody who knows me, I'm really, really lazy...

(...and I've gotten it wrong watching the rockers...)
