406 people, need some opinions please!
Well, awhile back, I installed a set of AFR 195 heads and the comp cams XR276-HR roller cam into my stock L98 block. The power felt great, but I think though that I am in the mood to make something bigger. I've been thinking about going to 383. I've been researching a lot about the 406 on here, but I'd like some personal experiences with people who are running a 406. What's the powerband like, how's the mileage? What's the max usable RPM of these motors? What kind of power numbers are you making with what kind of induction? Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated.
I was thinking of grabbing a World Castings Motown block and getting an all forged rotating assembly. I know that running 6-inch rods with these motors is possible, but will I also need a smaller base circle camshaft? I also know about the steam holes and will be sending my heads to a machine shop to have them drilled for the holes. TIA
