Liquid spitting from exhaust

Hello all,
I have a '89 bird with lots of mods (look at sig) I just replaced the cam and I have noticed when the car is cold, and I start her up, I see like black watery liquid spitting out of the tail pipes. In fact when I drive it that "stuff" travels to my taillights and bumper. What is this stuff, Could this be caused from the rockers being too loose or tight?? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Happy Turkey Day!!!!

Brad

H2O is a natural byproduct of the combustion process. Carbon also is (some anyways). They combine to make the black watery substance you speak of. If you are waaaaayyy rich it will be putting lots of black smoke out which also is creating lots of that black carbon to build up in the pipes. Then when the water comes through the pipes it will take some of the carbon with it and deposit that carbon on the back bumper, taillights, other cars, etc. Get some scantool data and see if it is running rich/lean or otherwise.

Are the rockers quiet? Does the engine run properly since the mods?

The motor runs rough at idle then after about 20-30 secs the motor runs very smooth. The rockers are quite, I see no black smoke. Guess it time for a scan!

Thanks

Its normal to see water condensation come out of the exhaust.

sounds like your exhaust system is full of soot, i never seen black water coming out from the tailpipes. sounds like its pretty bad if its getting your taillights dirty on drives. maybe the cat is plugged up with soot?

A retarded timing can also cause black liquid stuff.
