I work at a pontiac dealership, on regular services, we do air cleaner replacement at the 30K intervals.

Try buying K&N filters for your car and you will not need to replace them. They will just need to washed and reoiled. I know they might be difficult to find in your location, but you can use the internet.

If you operate your vehicle in an area that has more than the "normal" amount of dust, such as unpaved roads, high agricultural activity, or a lot of open sand, you may need to inspect and replace your air filter at every oil change (3,000 miles). Just inspect it periodically, and replace it when there is dirt apparent on the inside of the filter or you can no longer see a strong light clearly through the element.

I just use whatever paper filter (open element) I find offhand, preferably delco, change every 3k with the oil.
