weak spark?
I installed a cam (Crane 2032), AFPR, LT headers and 24# SVO injectors. With no PROM work the 24's obviously did not work out, the car ran terribly rich and fouled out plugs almost instantly. There was also fuel in the oil which I assume thinned the oil out so bad it was going past the rings and coming out of my valve cover breather. I put the original 22# inj. back in, changed the oil and filter about 3 times until the oil did not smell like fuel anymore and looks like clean oil when I check it on the dipstick. I just put a new set of plugs in replaced the v.c. breather with a hose running to the t.b. like it is supposed to be and took it for a ride, fuel pressure is right around 40 psi, within about 5 minutes of driving it starts running like crap (fouled plugs) and there is smoke coming from under the hood. Get back to the house and oil is all over the dipstick tube and on the engine where it has blown out, pull a plug and it is completely black, check the oil on the dipstick and it still looks good with no fuel smell to it. WTF! The car was barely driven 40 miles maybe, if that, with the 24's. Could that have been enough to ruin the rings? And what could cause it to still run so rich, even if the 02 sensor was bad could it foul the plugs that bad that quick? Engine is a 1990 5.7 TPI with about 100,000 miles, ran perfectly fine before and did not even burn any oil. I have not been able to drive the car for months due to this BS and limited time to work on it. PLEASE HELP, I need my car!
That is from a previous post I made, I copied it so people would know the specs on the car without reading that whole other post. Anyway, I think it is a weak spark and not too much fuel. I just put a new cap & rotor on, new wires, new coil, and the dist. is new. Also installed heated o2 sensor, ran car for about 5 minutes, pulled a plug and it was fuel fouled. All 8 are the same, I then layed a plug down on the frame with the wire hooked to it and had someone crank the car. The spark was yellow, the dist. had a lifetime warranty so I took it back and got another one. I have not put it back in yet, but I dont think that is it anyway. Maybe I need a better than stock coil? Sorry for the book, I just dont know what else to do with this car.
BTW, I am sure the oil problem I had was because it was so thin from the fuel. It wasnt coming out of the dipstick like I thought, It was being blown on there.

I got a spark tester, it shot a nice bright white with blue spark across the gap. When I was checking the plug, it looked like it had a yellow tint to it, but a couple other people I had look at it said it was white. The wires are brand new 8mm Accel's. I guess it IS fuel related, the coolant temp sensor is new to.

I have read on here that a bad MAP sensor could cause the car to run rich, or a bad vacuum to it. Maybe I have the wrong vacuum line hooked to it. It has run rich like this since I put it back together, so I am sure it is something I have done. The car ran perfect before I did the mods. I did replace the vacuum line to the MAP sensor and while messing around today I noticed it is kinda loose fitting at the end where it goes to the plenum, like the hose is too big. Could something like this cause it to run this rich?
Does anyone have any close up pictures of where all the lines go on the back of the plenum on the passenger side?, maybe a link to a diagram, there are only a couple of small pictures in my Haynes manual, but it looks to me like I may have the lines wrong.

Thank You very much! That first picture is exactly what I needed to see. I have those two lines mixed up, I hope that is my problem! I relocated my MAP sensor to the firewall because my fuel pressure gauge is there now, and like I stated earlier, the end of the hose that goes on the plenum is too big. When I just went out to look at it to compare it to your picture it was pretty much just falling off.
Thanks again!

One of the MAP concerns is how it's tied to the engine.
The size, type, and lenght of line all matters.
3' of 1/4" line is alot different then bolting the sensor to the manifold, like they did on some of the v 6's.
That is what my problem was. I put a six inch, 1/4 diameter vacuum line on the MAP sensor when I moved it to the firewall.
I found a bracket that I easily modified so I could put the sensor back where it goes, with the original vacuum line. It looks factory. I cant believe that is all that it was!
