I have some 305 heads from an 89 L03

Can I put them on my pre-86 305?

Not if you don't like getting slapped...

Okay, they will bolt to the block, but the intake bolt angles on the center bolts will be different. The rockers have to follow the heads, but the pushrods need to be of the type for the block (lifters, technically). The valve covers will be different (no biggie, they follow the heads, too).

Why, oh why, are you considering this abomination?

because the motor needs to get running asap its going to be towed and all i have is L03 heads for it.

So i will also need to use the rockers that were on the L03 heads but not the lifters / pushrods those stay in the motor?

Well it makes sense since they are hydralic roller and the other motor is not.

thanks five7 once again ill do the swap tommarow

You should be able to use the long push rods (from the '86) and SA rocker arms (from the '89) and make it work.

You'll probably have to use the '89 intake or elongate the center two holes on the '86 intake.
