Who's making big power on a carbed sm. block?

I am thinking of building up another third gen. This time carbed with a big cam, compression, and a nice set of cylinder heads. Of course all the goodies to go with it...

What combination are you running and what kind of RWHP, ET's, etc. did you get out of it and what did it cost you by the time it got finished?

Thanks

Define "big".

If you look on the Racing forum, you'll see some pretty impressive packages. A high percentage of the really quick cars run carb.

People don't like to admit how much they've spent on their cars, you know...

I'm talking on the cheap. Maybe something with a stock crank or a cheap stroker, some cheap heads, etc. I want to go in the 11's (on nitrous) as cheap as possibly but still have a good combo.

From www.thirdgen.org/techbb2 , scroll down below the tech forums. Just below the heavy line (at least, that's what it looks like to me).

There's an old saying, "Tell me how much money you want to spend, and I'll tell you how fast you can go."

The only exceptions are sweetheart deals. Nitrous is cheaper than N/A unless you don't build the bottom end right - then it's real expensive.

11's require other little things like roll bars.

350 with a comp xe274, vortec heads, an RPM intake, and a 750 carb, with a converter (3000ish), 3.73 gears and some weight reduction will get you into the 11's NA, then add the nitrous and hold on....

Look up Pony Killer on this site, thats his combo, and he's seen 11.9's with it. He doesn't have much money in it either.

How are you going to know you're running 11's if you don't? G-Tech? Fine for bench racing, perhaps tuning.

I don't condone any type of racing other than at a sanctioned track. To do any other is foolish, dangerous, and irresponsible.

Sure it is. I have a closed course I can run at out at a buddies farm. Its almost 1/2 mile long and runs behind his acreage. I wouldn't get stupid on the street.

You'll more than likely see mid/low 12's with that combo ...Pony Killer's car is badass but there are a lot more tweeks to it than just that. If you've ever seem it at the track you'll notice all the details to suspension as well, that thing just about pulls the front wheels.

I have a very similar combo to his and I'm gunning for very low 11's on the bottle just as soon as I can afford a new trans, converter, and fuel system. Right now I only have about $3,500 in mods. 355 with 10.3:1, TRW forged pistons, C&A rods, ESP steel crank, unported Vortec heads, Crane Powermax 238/246 @ .050, .480/.495 lift, 112lsa, RPM intake (soon to change to victor), 750 Holley DP, 3.92 gears with 28" tall slicks. The huge limiting factor of my car is the trans and converter. Right now I have a 2400RPM stall behind a dying 700R4. As soon as I get in a TH350 with an ATI converter (3500RPM or so) it should really haul ***.

PK's car is also A LOT lighter than most fcars your gonna have!

my car wieghs 3550 with me in it, has run 12.8's, and on an ideal run (good 60' and shifting down the track) i should run a mid 12...

specs are in the sig!

Oh yeah, here's a pic of my car launching- this was a 1.9 60', car bogged a little, then i missed 3rd
