Solenoid?

When i turn the ignition it merely clicks... really really fast too.. Just replaced the battery and the alternator... am i suffering from alternator death again? Where is the solenoid located i'm going to try and take the cap off to jump the current from the two posts to see if this is it.
p.s. i've done it in a stang but do i have a chance of ruining electrical in my GTA?

Thanks

on a gm it's attached to the starter. just follow the hot wire from the battery and you'll find it.

Sounds like a bad battery cable to me...

Try wiggling both of them around at both ends; my guess will be that it's either one of them at the battery, or the negative one at the engine.

Alright i follow the negative and it goes to the pass side and then dissapears near my exhaust manifolds.. My pos heads directly to the engine and then dissapears...
Heh, as you can tell i dont even know how to change my own oil... you've got to start somewhere right?
Lend a hand if you can
It's been sitting for about a month like this i've finally decided to do something bout it... one day it "just didnt stat" i rand it the day b4 adn took it for a drive... BAt power below the line ...

Tried boosting it from another battery i have (4500 cca if this helps)

The negative should connect to the engine mass somewhere, maybe to a bracket or something. The positive goes to a big terminal on the starter.

Your problem is a typical symptom of a bad connection in the big wires between the batt and the starter. It is extremely rare for anything other than a battery, or a cable to cause that behavior. It is far more often one of the cables than the batt. So, if you can figure out which cable has a bad connection at which end (they really rarely have a bad connection in the middle!) you have found the problem. Usually at the site of the malfunction you'll see either corrosion, or signs of large heat generation, or both. In almost every case you can make it alternate between working and not by moving it around.

If the small ground wire that goes to the chassis via a pigtail off the neg cable is fried, then you know you've got a bad neg cable.
