Idle Problem

OK i put in a new TPS and Did the IAC relearn. I also checked for leaks. Here is the problem. When I start it i had to give it gas so it wouldnt stall. Once it idles it idles pretty high. When I did the IAT relearn it would only go down to about 1200-1500 in park and 900-1000 in drive. Not even close to 450. Also when i backed off the idle screw the black plastic part that is attached to the throttle cable wont go all the way back to the screw once you hit the gas unless you manually pull it back but it still wont idle low enough to get it to 450 even if you pull it maually. Do you think i need a new spring for the throttle cable or what parts i need and where can i get them so the black thing will touch the screw. If this isnt the problem what could it be do you think the IAC is just bad? Also my coolant temp gauge doesnt work.

Ok i figured out what you meant by the car thinking it is cold all the time and i replaced the CTS and Temp Sending Unit. Well now my gauge works and the car will start up fine. It doesnt stall anymore, but the idle is still erattic. Not as bad as before, but it still idles between 1200-2000 rpm in park and neutral and 950-1200 in drive gears. It does this evn when it is warm. Should I try to do the IAC relearn again?? To get the idle down I had to bend the throttle cable plate thing that is bolted to the side if the intake manifold. I was told by my mechanic to do this because one of the cables was to tight and wouldnt allow the TB to close all the way. Now i can adjust it down but it still will not go all the way back if the screw is all the way backed out. Is it supposed to be able to go all the way back or is this normal?

Ok update. I did the IAC relearn again and it seems like the car is right where i want it. When the car is in gear the idle stays pretty smooth right around 750-800 rpm, and 1000-1200 in park. Man am I glad that this is finally over. Also I didnt have the tool to do the TPS adjustmen so I just loosened the bolts and firmly pressed the sensor all the way up so it would contact the TB lever all the way and that seemed to make everything smooth out and rev to where I mentioned above.

Sorry lost track of this thread for a few days.

Glad you figured it out .

The re-learn is usually isnt nessasary but some times the ECM's do need it. You should never have to adjust the thottle body set screw. Its set from the factory to a certain posistion and is supposed to stay there. Sometimes carbon buildup will cause the TB to stick open slightly increasing the RPM.

Yeah you should have seen all the carbon that came out when I cleaned the TB. It was like thick black ooze. Man one of these days I might take the TB off and really give it a good cleaning.
