oil pump pressure spring
what is this and what does it do to the oil pump--- a Mr Gasket 26 pressure regulator spring. i have a melling oil pump and was curious as to what this spring would do to the pressure out put???

Inside the oil pump, there is a piston. The piston is pressed aginst a hole by the spring. Oil from the oil pump outlet is on the other side of the hole. When oil press exceeds spring press, the piston moves away from the hole and oil is bypassed from the pump outlet back into the pump inlet.
That Mr Gasket spring will limit oil press to 60 PSI which is a little higher than stock.
