oil pressure drops when braking

hi

I was on my way home tonight when i noticed that my oil pressure was acting up.. It is normally between 35 and 45 at cruising speeds, and above 30 at idle... Tonight, it would drop to about 10psi when I hit the brakes to come to a stop, once i came to a complete stop, or let off the brakes it would return to normal. I did a search on old topics, so I am planning on changing the sender, but i am not so sure that it is the cause because the guage reads normally unless i am breaking. Any ideas?

thanks, nick

I would say your either waaaaay low on oil or your oil pump pickup has fallen off the pump

The oil pick-up tube may have fallen off.

agreed it's something you need to look into a bit more before you drive the car any more

That's probably what it is. I had that happen to me....TWICE. The first time, I had to pull the motor for something completely different, and when I put it on the stand and turned the motor upside down, I heard clunk clunk , and I said to myself, "we'll I know what my oil pressure problem is now" Anyway, don't do what I did and think that pressing it in tight or using JB weld is gonna hold it in there. Get it tack welded on or use one of the pick up fasteners like they sell in Jegs or Summit otherwise you'll probably be doing it again.

Might try draining the oil and smacking the oil pan with a rubber mallet. Listen for the pick-up ratteling around.

Be sure to remove the spring if you weld on the pump. The heat can make the spring weaker.
