How to install a cam for dummies???
I have my new GM caprice create engine on an engine stand and I bought a ZZ4 roller cam to replace the peanut cam that came with the engine. I have a few questions on how to do the cam swap.
- Do I have to degree the cam (which I do not know how to do) or can I just line up the marks on the gears?
- Do I have to take off the oil pan?
- Should I replace my old distributor gear, if so with which one, there are like 100 on summits site?
- What type of assembly lube should I put on the cam?

- Line up the dots.
- Yes, to get the timing chain off. You could "drop it" a little, but since it's on an engine stand, may as well do it right.
- Define "old". If it doesn't look too worn it'll be fine.
- Standard moly lube on just the cam journals. You don't need it on the lobes. AAMOF, putting it on the lobes will make it difficult for the rollers to spin at first. Not good.
