Cost to have shop add material to a crank?

I'm getting my rotating assembly internally balanced and they said that its like 70 bucks a fill to add mallory(sp) and I need 5 fills. 3 in back and 2 in front. Thats more money then what I paid for the crank. hmm

sounds right, mallory metal isn't cheap. couldn't you of gotten an internal balance crank to start with?

ede,

Matt is building a 383 with a eagle cast crank, and eagle H beam rods, and speed pro hyper. pistons.

He got the lower end as a kit. and wanted to get it int. balanced.

I believe They said it was actually $5bucks in material the rest was labor charges.

it was 20 a fill for material. and 50 to install per fill. They said they started in the morning and took about a day to get complete.

There're internal balance cranks out there. But for 6" rods only. Why spend all the money to go internal balance? Won't run any faster, or smoother if balanced right. I'm running a cat cast crank in mine, and probably the smoothest engine I have ever built. Flexplates are cheap, just has to stay with the crank.
