modded ZZ4 = Firehawk Engine
I’ve been doing research looking for all the specs on Firehawk that I could find on the net. My purpose is to the clone engine for use in autocross. In the class I run it is allowed to run any engine that was available in any 3rd gen F-body. The intake is too rare so I’m going to use a SuperRam or a MiniRam (The changing intake manifold is open by the rules).
In the articles that I found on the Firehawk, they said that the engine came from GM’s parts bins and that it ran a 4-bolt main block, forged crank, “Pink” rods, hypereutectic pistons and Aluminum Vette heads. These are the same specs for the ZZ4 crate engine, though the articles said that SLP used their own cam and ported the Vette heads. I seen two sets of what were supposedly the specs to the Firehawk’s cam (.470/.490 214/224 108 or .470/.490 214/224 115). I’ve also seen information that said in addition to porting of the heads that vales were enlarged to 2” intake and 1.56” exhaust.
Is there anyone that can confirm or debunk this information?
